i love all the jumbled mall carpet geometry in the lead-up to gay bowser. bobombobmb battlefield is the model ambient software state. lethal lava land might literally be a sandy petersen map. by modern standards it's all so loose and playful, like an assortment of odds & ends that miraculously happened to form near-perfect skateparks of their own volition. it couldn't be any easier to understand how something so buoyant, tactile, and mischievous cemented itself as one of the medium's most timelessly spellbinding artefacts. slam your ass up and down to your heart's content. do a nice little flip. scoot up a flagpole. it's incredible stuff. why they followed it up with a game about spraying shit with a hose is truly beyond me
